Amazon does not publish comprehensive information about it’s fulfillment centers. But for sellers in Amazon’s Fulfillment by Amazon Program (FBA) this can mean a huge headache when it comes time to collect and remit sales tax.
Why? Because housing inventory in a state – including in an Amazon Fulfillment Center – gives a seller “sales tax nexus” in that state. (Need help with your Amazon FBA Sales tax? TaxJar has your back.) This means the seller is required to collect sales tax on all sales made to buyers in any state where they house inventory in an Amazon Fulfillment Center.
It’s vital for Amazon sellers to know where their products are stored!
Using independent research, news stories about new fulfillment centers,
interviews with current FBA sellers, and even postings on Amazon’s job boards, TaxJar has come up with what we hope is a true and complete list of Amazon Fulfillment Centers in the United States and Canada. We will strive to keep this list updated as new fulfillment centers are built.

Locations of Amazon Fulfillment Centers
Arizona
Arizona has what is known as a transaction privilege tax (TPT) rather than a sales tax. Arizona is an origin-based sales tax state, meaning that you should charge sales tax rates based on the origin of the goods in Arizona. To make matters a little simpler, all Amazon Fulfillment Centers in Arizona are located in Maricopa County, though they are in two different cities. Illinois
Joliet, IL is currently home to an Amazon facility used to distribute goods to other facilities. So while you may find yourself shipping goods to Joliet, you will find that those goods are sent out to other states. That said, a Joliet fulfillment center (which will create sales tax nexus) is in the works. Please subscribe to the TaxJar blog or check back often for more news and it’s opening date.

A note on MDW2, Joliet, Illinois:
This facility is a redistribution center. Since no items ship directly to customers from this building, then it doesn’t technically create nexus. However, the way Amazon’s logistics work, that could change at any time! Now that Amazon has many fulfillment centers in Illinois, if you have inventory in MDW2 you likely also have inventory in another Illinois fulfillment center and should register for a sales tax permit when the time is right. Here’s more about why MDW2 doesn’t technically create nexus (yet).
Indiana
Indiana is a destination-based sales tax state. This means that if you have nexus in Indiana you should charge everyone in Indiana the rate where the item is being delivered.
