Regarded as one of the English language's most gifted poets, John Keats wrote poetry that concentrated on imagery, human nature, and philosophy.Although Keats didn't receive much formal literary education, his ownstudies and passion brought him much success. Additionally, his own lifesituation influenced his poetry greatly.

Growing up as a young boy in London in a lower, middle-class family, theyoung John didn't attend a private school, but went to a public one. Histeachers and his family's friends regarded him as an optimistic boy whofavored playing and fighting much more than minding his studies. After hisfather's death in the early 1800s, followed by his mother's passing due totuberculosis (肺结核), he began viewing life differently. He wanted to escapethe world and did so by reading anything he could get his hands on.

At around the age of 16, the teenage John Keats began studying under a surgeon so that he too might become a doctor. John Keats' next work was Endymion, which was published in May 1818. The story involves a shepherd who falls in love with the moon goddess andleads him on an adventure of one boy's hope to overcome the limitations ofbeing human. Following Engymion, however, he tried something more

At the close of each business day, most trained teachers, administrators, politicians, and statesmen make objective analyses of all that has transpired(得知). What does the educational processreally mean to you?

We are part of a world in which men thrill to the touch of gold and hearts respond to the word money instead of being thrilled by the thought of good.We live in a world in which we are taught that the pursuit of happiness is anequation (等式) for the most rapid acquisition of money, by whatever means. There is an old Chinese proverb that states \"One Generation plants the trees; another gets the shade,\" and this is how it should be with mothers anddaughters. The relationship between a mother and daughter is sometimesconfusing. If close, the relationship can be similar to friendship. However, themother and daughter relationship has unique characteristics that distinguish itfrom a friendship. These characteristics include a hierarchy (等级) ofresponsibility and unconditional love, which preclude mothers and daughtersfrom being best friends.

Marina, 27 years old, says, \"I love spending time with my room, but Iwouldn't consider her my best friend. Best friends don't pay for yourwedding. Best friends don't remind you how they carried you in their bodyand gave you life! Best friends don't tell you how wise they are because theyhave been alive at least 20 yeats longer than you.\" This doesn't mean that themother and daughter relationship can't be very close and satisfying.

While some adult relationships are still troubled, many find them to be extremely rewarding. This generation of mothers and adult daughters has a

lot in common which increases the likelihood of shared companionship.Mothers and daughters have always shared the common experience of beinghomemakers, responsible for maintaining and passing on family values andtraditions. Today contemporary mothers and daughters also share theexperience of the workforce and technology, which may bring them evencloser together.

Best friends may or may not continue to be best friends, but for better or worse, the mother and daughter relationship is permanent, even if for someunfortunate reason they aren't speaking. The mother and child relationship iscloser than any other. There is not an equal relationship. Daughters shouldnot feel responsible for their mother's emotional wall-being. It isn't that theydon't care deeply about their mothers. It's just that they shouldn't be burdenedwith their mother's well being.

The mother and daughter relationship is a relationship that is not

replaceable by any other. Mothers never stop being mothers, which includesfrequently wanting to protect their daughters and often feeling responsible fortheir happiness. Mother always \"trumps\" friend.

49. The underlined word \"preclude\" in Paragraph 1 probablymeans\"_________\".

A. differ B. prevent C. benefit D. change

50. Why do many mothers and adult daughters keep a rewardingrelationship?

A. Because they have a lot in common.

B. Because they have common family values. C. Because they have no generation gap. D. Because they keep a constant relationship.51. What do we know from the passage?

A. The mother and daughter relationship can be replaced by a best friend. B. A mother's love brings her and her daughter a close friendship. C. The mother and daughter relationship goes beyond best friends' friendship.

D. Marina has a troubled relationship with her mother.52. The author proves his statements mainly by_______.

A. listing data B. giving explanations C. quoting sayings D. making examples

53. What is the best title for the passage?

A. How to be a good mother and daughter B. Who is a mother's best friend?

C. A friend in need is a friend indeed. D. Can a mother be a daughter's best friend?

读写任务(共1小题,满分25分)

Finding his best friend cheat in the English exam, the writer of the letter felt frustrated and was caught in a dilemma whether to tell his teacher aboutthe truth.

If I were Jesse, I would let the teacher know the truth even though his is my best friend, which, I believe, is really a good way to help my friend andget him aware of his mistake so that he will never cheat again. That is for realfriendship.

Undoubtedly, both friendship and honesty are important to us. But as a student, I would put honesty before friendship when I have to choose onefrom them. Being honest enables us to win respect and trust from peoplearound. Moreover, a friendship cannot last long unless based on mutual trustand honesty. Thus, honesty is prior to friendship.

In my life, when my friend makes a mistake, I will try to help him as much as I can, but do it reasonably. For example, I will have a heart-to-heart talkwith him, pointing out his wrong and advise him on how to correct it. Ifthings go beyond me, I would turn to a teacher or some senior schoolmateswith my friend.【评分标准】
