You can't imagine how terrible I felt at that time. A month before my first marathon, one of my ankles was injured and that meant not running for two weeks, leaving me only two weeks to train. Yet, I was determined to go ahead.
I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P.E. class, the teacher required us to run laps and then hit a softball. I didn't do either well. He later informed me that I was Mnot athletic.
The idea that I was \"not athletic”stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against myself not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind. A test of wills!
The night before my marathon, I dreamt that I couldn't even find the finish line. I woke up sweating and nervous, but ready to prove something to myself
Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoe laces(鞋带)became untied. So I stopped to readjust. Not the start 1 wanted!
At mile 3,1 passed a sign: MGO FOR IT, RUNNERS!\"
By mile 17,1 became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly. Despite the pain, I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.
By mile 21,1 was starving!
As I approached mile 23, I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan. She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a.m. or questioned my expenses on running.
I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact, I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had.

When I revealed that 1 was planning to travel around Britain by public transport, everyone I
的saw said, 'Gosh, you're brave!' but it never occurred to me to go any other way. Driving in Britain is such a dull experience these days. There are far too many cars on the road, nearly double what there were when I first came here, and in those days people didn't actually drive their cars. They just parked them in the driveway and cleaned them once every week or so. About twice a year they would “get the car out” for a pleasant drive to visit relatives or take a trip.
Now everyone drives everywhere for everything, which I don't understand because there isn*t a single feature of driving in Britain that has even the tiniest measure of enjoyment in it. Just consider the average multi-storey(多层的)car park. You drive around for ages, and eventually find a space that is exactly two inches wider than average car. Then, because you are parked next to a pillar(柱子),you have to climb over the seats and end up squeezing out of the passenger door, in the process transferring all the dirt from the side of your car to the back of your smart new jacket. Then you go hunting for some distant pay-and-display machine, which doesn't give change.
And that's just one tiny part of the driving experience. There are all the other annoyances of motoring, like traffic lights on busy roundabouts(环形交通枢纽)that never let you advance more than 20 feet at a time, and motorway service areas where food is much more expensive. Motorized vehicles are ugly and dirty. They occupy every pavement, turn ancient market squares into disorderly and untidy groups of metal, and cause petrol stations and other discouraging places to appear in great number. They are horrible and awful and 1 wanted nothing to do with them on this trip. 12. Why did the author decide to travel by public transport? A. Because he didn't have a car. B. Because he hated driving in Britain.
C. Because he wasn't familiar with roads in Britain. D. Because he was inspired by how people used to travel. 13. What did the author mainly complain about in Paragraph 2? A. The inconvenience of parking cars. C. The uncleanness of car parks. 14. How is the last paragraph developed? A. By providing ex amples. C. By following the order of time.
B. By making comparisons. D. By following the order of space. B. The unreasonable parking fees. D. The improper use of cars.
15. What would the author probably talk about in the paragraph that follows?
A. The terrible places caused by vehicles. C. His travels by public transport.
B 13. A 14. A 15. C 【解析】
B. The bother caused by driving cars. D. His past driving experience.

Everyone needs help. Help others, or you'll be helped at the same time. Often there are some cases where we help ourselves indirect in helping others. Last month, my deskmate asked for me to help him with his maths. In order to help him, I go over the textbook again and again, and did lots of exercises. To his surprise, some difficult problems that I could not understand before worked out by
myself. After a month, with my help, he made great progresses in maths, too. Such a expenence enabled me to realize that help others also does good to ourselves. So when others is in trouble, never hesitate to help them.

固定结构:ask sb. to do sth.“请求某人做某事”。
故把his改成my。

Dear drivers,
At present, more and more cars have entered the homes of ordinary people. But what worries us a lot is some drivers’ bad quality. Their behavior harms the safety of others and themselves. This phenomenon is against the development of our society. Then , I have some ideas for you to be good drivers. First , all of us must obey the traffic regulations. Second, you shouldn’t throw things out of the car window. Some cleaners are hit by the passing cars and die per year while they are picking up the things you have thrown away. Next , give way to passers-by politely at the cross-roads and you mustn’t run the red light. Last but not least, always remember: your families are waiting for you at home.
I really hope all the drivers can take action from now on and try to be good Chinese drivers. Sincerely yours,
Li Hua

【详解】文章要求考生写一封倡议书,倡议所有的驾驶员做“中国好司机”。本文要在第一人称和第三人称之间转换,使用一般现在时态。要点:(1) 简单描述以上现象;
But what worries us a lot is some drivers’ bad quality.状语从句while they are picking up the things you have thrown away.
