Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Today, I am honored to stand in front of you to talk about the Chinese traditional festival - Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival.

As we all know, the Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month every year, which usually corresponds to late September or early October in the Gregorian calendar. It is one of the most important festivals in China, and also popular in some other East Asian countries, such as Vietnam, Korea, and Malaysia. The Mid-Autumn Festival has a long history and rich cultural connotations. According to legend, it originated in the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) as a celebration of the harvest, and gradually evolved into a day of family reunion and moon worship. It is said that on this day, the moon is round and bright, and makes people feel deeply connected with their loved ones who are far away.

Speaking of the customs and traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival, there are several things that cannot be missed. Firstly, mooncakes are the essential food of the festival. As a symbol of reunion and good luck, mooncakes are often exchanged among family members and friends. People also enjoy watching the full moon and lighting lanterns, which create a joyful and festive atmosphere. Besides, there are many folk tales and legends related to the Moon Festival, such as the story of Chang’e, the goddess of the moon.

In recent years, the Mid-Autumn Festival has gained more and more attention and popularity around the world. With the increasing globalization and cultural exchange, people from different countries and regions can have the chance to

appreciate and experience the charm of this traditional festival. For example, some foreign companies and organizations have started to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with their Chinese employees and clients, which not only enhances the cultural diversity but also strengthens the mutual understanding and communication.

In conclusion, the Mid-Autumn Festival is not only a significant cultural heritage of China but also a valuable platform for cross-cultural exchange and communication. Let’s cherish this precious festival and share its joy and blessings with people around us.
