My Dreams and Hopes for the Future
Ever since I was a little kid, I've had big dreams about what I want to do and who I want to be when I grow up. Some of those dreams have changed over the years, but some have stayed the same. I still vividly remember dressing up as an astronaut for career day in 1st grade – I was convinced I was going to be the first person to walk on Mars!
As I've gotten older, my dreams have become a bit more realistic, but no less ambitious. I may not make it to the red planet, but I still hope to work in a field related to science and exploration someday. I'm totally fascinated by the mysteries of our universe and all the discoveries waiting to be made about things like black holes, dark matter, and other galaxies.
One of my biggest dreams is to become an astrophysicist and help uncover some of those mysteries. I love learning about physics, chemistry, and all the forces and particles that make up everything in existence. The idea of studying stars, planets, and celestial phenomenons for a living sounds like the coolest job ever to me. I already spend hours staring up at the night sky
through my telescope, trying to spot shooting stars, planets, and far-off galaxies.
Of course, becoming an astrophysicist requires a lot of really hard work and years of intensive study. I know the classes will be incredibly challenging in college and grad school. Math, in particular, is something I'll have to master at the highest levels. It's definitely a lofty goal, but I'm confident that if I stay focused and keep working hard, I can make it happen eventually. In the meantime, I'm doing everything I can to prepare myself. I take every available science and math class at my school, and I'm active in science clubs too. I love participating in science fairs and working on experiments of my own design. Whenever scientists make new discoveries, like the incredible images from the James Webb Space Telescope, I read everything I can about it.
While becoming an astrophysicist is my biggest career dream, it's definitely not my only one. I'm also really interested in using science, technology, and innovation to help tackle some of the biggest challenges facing humanity and our planet. Issues like climate change, food and water scarcity, disease outbreaks, and so many others have the potential to cause incredible harm without bold solutions.
That's why I hope to contribute in some way to creating new sources of renewable energy, engineering more sustainable manufacturing and transportation methods, or even developing futuristic ways to grow food more efficiently. With human ingenuity and determination, I'm confident we can find ways to coexist with the environment instead of destroying it.
On a more local level, one of my biggest dreams is to start a nonprofit community organization someday that uses
technology to directly improve people's lives. There are so many potential ways it could help – providing online tutoring for kids who are struggling in school, teaching tech skills to people looking for jobs, creating apps to coordinate local volunteering efforts, or crowdsourcing ideas to solve problems in the community.
Wherever my specific career takes me, I just want to ensure I'm doing work that makes a positive difference and leaves the world a little bit better than how I found it. Solving problems through science, innovation, and technology in a way that helps both people and the planet would make me incredibly proud and fulfilled.
More than any professional dreams though, I hope to just live a life of kindness, compassion, and ethical principles. Having
a loving family, being a good friend, and making choices that I can feel good about – those are the things that matter most to me. I may want to literally reach for the stars when it comes to my career, but I also hope to keep my feet firmly planted in being a caring, responsible person who tries to do the right thing. No matter how succesful I may become professionally or what challenges come my way, I hope to never lose my sense of wonder about the world around me. I'll never stop being in awe of a beautiful sunrise, the complexity of a single flower, or the enormity of the universe we're ALL a small part of. Dreams like becoming an astrophysicist are the specifics, but my biggest overall dream is to just appreciate every day I have on this planet we call home.
Of course, these are just my hopes and dreams as a 7th grader – who knows how my perspectives and ambitions might evolve and shift again in the years ahead. Life is an incredible journey full of unexpected twists and turns. But if I had to capture my dreams right now, it would be to combine my passions for science and technology with making a positive impact, all while keeping a humble, compassionate spirit along the way.
Only time will tell where that journey ultimately leads, but I can't wait to find out. The future may be full of mysteries, but it's also full of endless possibilities to dream about. And I, for one, plan to never stop dreaming big!
