Many people believe that yellowing and wetness are the greatest enemy of stamps. In fact, stamps are afraid of not only wetness, but also light and dirty things. People protect their stamps in several different ways.

To protect stamps, we should never touch the stamps with our hands. This avoids moving dirty things onto them. Stamp tweezers (镊子) should be used in all conditions.

Stamps are printed things. The color will slowly disappear if the stamps are put in the light for a long time. So we should not put stamps in the light for long. Direct sunlight must be avoided as well.

Wetness is an important problem for stamps. Some collectors will put stamps in separate plastic (塑料) bags. However, it is possible that some stamps have taken in some water from the air before they are put into the plastic bags. Stamps become yellow easily and rapidly after they take in wet air. To protect the stamps, some people also put the stamps into a special room which has a machine to keep the air cool and dry. However, not many people can afford that.

To keep stamps, stamp collectors usually put them under plastic covers. It is a common and simple way. This helps because the plastic cover keeps the stamps off the wet air. It also stops the fingers from touching the stamps.

Some collectors prefer to store stamps inside a plastic box with desiccants (干燥剂).However, we should take care not to let the stamps touch the desiccants. On top of that, don’t take your stamps out on a wet day.

up and said, “Are you going to town? If you are, we’ll help you carry your basket.”

“Thank you,” said the woman. “That’s very kind of you.” Then she told them that she was going to the market to sell the pears. So the boys decided to lift the basket together. They walked slowly with the heavy basket, but they were happy.

The other day, I saw a little girl pick up a piece of banana peel(水果皮). She threw it into the dustbin(垃圾箱). “I hope nobody would throw that on the street,” she said. “Someone may slip(滑倒)and fall.”

I have come to realize that life is a journey. Whether we choose to keep moving around, or we choose to stay in one place, we are on a journey. That journey is not an easy one because every day it makes us face new problems in new ways.

When I was a little boy, I liked moving around.

I always looked forward to the next trip away or the next holiday. Maybe it is because I lived in a small and boring town. How I wanted the school holidays when I could go to the coast! There I met with friends and my cousins, and had so much fun. I also met new people and sometimes we would travel together exploring(探索) different towns and beachside places.

When I finished high school, I kept moving. In my first year out of school I traveled with a friend. We visited seventeen countries in Europe, working different jobs as we went. What an adventure(冒险) we had! No one could keep us still! When one place or one job became boring, we went off. If we didn’t like the people we were staying with, we said goodbye. In this way I went to three different universities to study and lived in five different towns.

All this carried on for many years until I got married and had my own family.

2

Now having a family is a different thing because you cannot choose who they are as you want. When you stay in the same place, with the same persons, you start a whole new journey. That is the journey of facing your mistakes and trying to make them right. Rather than walk away and meet someone new when you make a mistake, you have to say that you are sorry and try again. When the ones you love hurt you, you may feel angry or unhappy. But instead of making the decision to leave, you have to try to tell them how you feel and forgive(宽恕) them.

Then you will stay in the same town, choosing one place to live and one job to remain in. There again you are challenged to face life, doing things such as paying your bills and trying hard to get along well with your boss. You have to keep on at your job when you feel like giving it all up and traveling again.

So rather than move around on different trips, you are on a new journey. This journey of staying still is just as important as all the travels in the world. 106. 根据短文内容回答问题(限10个词以内)。

There was a time when New York City buildings were almost all the same height.83 Today you can see buildings of different heights that seem to touch the sky. They are called skyscrapers(摩天大楼). They shape the famous New York City skyline.

It started about 90 years ago. It began like a race. This wasn’t a race down the street or around a track(跑道). It was a race for the sky. Who was racing? Buildings were. Their builders were actually racing to build the world’s tallest skyscraper.

3

The race started slowly.

First came the Woolworth Building, in 1913. It rose 792 feet(英尺) on the southern side of the city.

Then the race heated up. In1930, two skyscrapers were nearing completion. The Bank of Manhattan Building was finished first. It rose up to 927 feet into the sky. Builders were then putting a round roof(屋顶) on the top of the Chrysler Building. It rose up to 925 feet. The Bank of Manhattan, two feet taller, seemed to be the winner.

A few weeks later, New Yorkers saw a strange sight(景象). The day that the Chrysler Building was to be completed, workers raised a shiny metal, spire (尖顶) through the top of the building, adding 121 feet to the building’s height! At l,048 feet, the Chrysler Building was now the world’s tallest.

But the race was not over. A year later, in 1931, the Empire State Building became the new winner. 84 At 1,250 feet, it was the world’s tallest building.

In 1973, even that record was broken. Builders finished the World Trade Center. At 1,368 feet high, it rose above all other buildings in New York City.

It’s important to teach children to create strong passwords(密码), and to remind them that passwords mustn’t be shared with anyone, not even best friends.

A strong password is a word that is as difficult as possible to guess because it looks like a set of random characters(随机的字符).

It’s wise to use the whole keyboard to mix a password with letters, numbers and symbols. A password of 14 characters or more may be much safer.

The following tips will tell you how to create a strong and safe password:

Tip1: Think of a sentence that is easy to remember, but difficult to guess. For example: “My son Peter is five years old and my daughter Tina is one year old.”

4

The whole sentence is so long that it can’t be a password, so what you can do is to use the first letter of each word to make a new password that seems to be meaningless. That is “mspifyoamdtioyo”.

Tip 2: Make the password more difficult to guess by mixing big and small letters. One way to do this is to use big and small letters one after another. In this way this new password will be “MsPiFyOaMdTilyO”

Tip 3: Still using the sentence above, you can also add numbers that are meaningful to you. as a result, the new password will be “MsPi 5y OaMdTiLyO”.

Tip4: Add punctuation(标点符号) and symbols to make the password much stronger. You may use symbols, numbers and punctuation to replace some letters which look similar. For example: “MsPi 3yO@MdTi! yO”.(o=O, a=@, L=!) 任务型阅读: 根据材料内容,按要求完成下列各题。(每小题3分,共10分)。 71. A strong password is ______difficult _____ guess all the characters are at random. (改写短文中划线句子)
