英 语 试 卷

Technology can disturb a good night’s sleep in several ways. The biggest problem is that these devices are often left on at night and send out light and noise that can disturb sleep cycles and change sleep-related hormone levels.

News articles and games can also keep your mind very active, making it difficult to relax and fall asleep. A 2013 study found that people exposed to mobile radiation for three hours before going to sleep had more trouble falling into and staying in a deep sleep.

It’s not surprising, then, that researches show children with electronic devices in their bedrooms sleep less and experience lower-quality sleep than children without them. Sleep quality suffers most when devices are regularly left on during the night.

So what to do? One solution is an electronic curfew. One hour before bed, remove all electronic devices from the bedroom.

Some sleep specialists suggest no TV right before bed, but some people feel they need the distraction of TV to fall asleep. Those people can try using a TV-timer which will automatically turn off the television after a chosen period.

Anyway, it’s probably a good choice to leave these devices in the living room and you’ll get a better night’s sleep.

31. What is the purpose of Paragraph 1?

A. To show the harm of electronic devices. B. To blame the people for using electronic devices. C. To introduce the topic in the opposite way. D. To show the benefit of electronic devices. 32. What does ―Technology‖ stand for in Paragraph 3?

A. Smartphones. B. Electronic devices. C. Tablets. D. TV. 33. What can we infer from Paragraph 4 and Paragraph 5?

A. News articles and games have no effect on your sleep quality. B. You will sleep better when devices are regularly left on.

C. Exposed to mobile radiation, everyone will have trouble falling into a deep sleep.

D. Compared with those with devices in bedrooms, children without them sleep more and better. 34. What may be the best title of this passage?

A. Have a Better Night B. National Sleep Foundation C. Electronic Services and Sleep D. The Solutions to Sleep

When I was about 15, I had an enemy, a girl who liked to point out my shortcomings. Week by week her list grew: I was very thin, I talked too loud, I was too proud, and so on. I put up with her as long as I could. At last, I ran to my father in tears and anger.

He listened to me quietly, then he asked. ―Are the things she says true or not? Janet, didn’t you ever wonder what you’re really like ? Well, you now have that girl’s opinion. Go and make a list of everything she said and mark the points that are true. Pay no attention to the other things she said.‖

I did as he told me. To my great surprise, I discovered that about half the things were true. Some of them I couldn’t change (like being very thin), but a good number I could—and suddenly I wanted to change. For the first time I got a fairly clear picture of myself.

I brought the list back to Daddy. He refused to take it. ―That’s just for you,‖ he said. ―You know better than anyone else the truth about yourself. But you have to learn to listen, not just close

―I still don’t think it very nice of her to talk about me in front of everybody,‖ I said.

―Janet, there is one way you could stop others talking about you ever again, and criticizing you ---- just say nothing and do nothing. But then, if you do that , you’d find you were nothing. You wouldn’t like that now, would you?‖ ―No,‖ I admitted.
