【Do the things you don't like】　　A farmer and his son, traveling by horse and buggy up a narrow lane, met a motoristgoing the other way. There was no room to pass for two miles in either direction. The motorist, in hurry, honked his horn.　　'If you don't back up,” said the farmer, rolling up his sleeves, “I won't like what I'm going to have to do.” The surpriseddriver put his car in reverse and backed up two miles, allowing the horse and buggy to go by.　　'What was it you wouldn't have liked to have done back there?” asked the farmer's son.　　'Back up two miles,” replied the farmer.

　　⼀位农民和他的⼉⼦坐着马车来到⼀条狭窄的⼩巷， 他们看到⼀个司机正往他们这个⽅向开来。两个⽅向2英⾥以内已经没有空间让他们擦⾝⽽过了。司机焦急地按着喇叭。

　　“假如你不往后退，”农民撸着袖⼦说，“我并不喜欢我将要必须去做的事。”司机甚是惊讶，挂了倒挡，退后了2英⾥，让马车先过去了。

　　“刚才你说你并不喜欢做的事是什么啊?”农民的⼉⼦问。　　“退后2英⾥。”农民回答。

【Flunking Math】　　My son, who made the dean's list in his freshman year at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., calledhome a few weeks after starting his sophomore year as a psychology student.

　　\"Mom,\" he said excitely, \"I have found the answer to surviving college! It isn't the grades that are so important, but thequality of what is learned and how it is applied to daily life. I'm lucky to be having these wonderful experiences!\"　　\"And just what does this mean?\" I asked.　　\"I'm flunking math,\" he replied.　　数学没及格

　　我⼉⼦是印第安那市曼西尔波州⽴⼤学的学⽣，⼤学⼀年级就上了系主任的名单。第⼆年他学⼼理学，刚⼏个星期他就给家⾥打了个电话。

　　“妈妈，”他激动地说：“我找到了如何在⼤学⾥⽣存下去的答案!重要的不是分数，⽽是具备将学到的知识应⽤于⽇常⽣活的素质。我很幸运地有了这种奇妙的经历。”　　“你到底是什么意思?”我问道。　　“我数学没及格。”他回答说。

【A Wolf in sheep's clothing】　　A wolf wanted to eat the sheep, but he was afraid of the vigilant shepherd and his dogs.One day the wolf found the skin of a sheep. He put it on and walked among the sheep. A lamb thought that the wolf was itsmother because his skin looked like hers. So it followed the wolf. Soon after they had left the dogs, the wolf came at the lamband ate it up. For some time he succeeded in deceiving the sheep, and enjoying hearty meals.　　披着⽺⽪的狼

　　狼想吃⽺，但是他害怕警惕的牧⽺⼈和牧⽺⽝。 有⼀天狼发现了⼀块⽺⽪，便披着它混⼊⽺群。 ⼀只⼩⽺羔把这只披着⽺⽪的狼误认为⾃⼰的妈妈，被领出了⽺群。 狼成功地欺骗了⽺群，吃掉了⼩⽺羔。　　寓意：事物的外表有时候会掩盖它的本质，所以我们不能只凭表⾯现象就作判断。
