The Wild Honey-Suckle
By Philip Freneau
Fair flower, that dost so comely动人的 grow, Hid in this silent, dull retreat隐退出, 美丽的金银花,你粲然绽放于幽静一角。
No roving漫游 foot shall crush thee here,游子从不践踏你的玉体, No busy hand provoke激怒 a tear.
By Nature's self in white arrayed,
She bade 祝愿thee shun 躲开the vulgar eye,你得以远离庸人的目光。 And planted here the guardian shade,她赐予你一片绿阴葱葱, And sent soft waters murmuring by;她带给你一泓流水淙淙。
Thy days declining to repose
Smit 摧毁with those charms, that must decay,妩媚动人,你却无法盛颜久长, I grieve to see your future doom;落红满地,你令我黯然神伤。
They died--nor were those flowers more gay,纵然在伊甸乐园,人间天堂, The flowers that did in Eden bloom;也难免一日凋零,满目凄凉。 Unpitying 无情的frosts, and Autumn's power萧瑟秋风,凄白秋霜, Shall leave no vestige 残余of this flower.
From morning suns and evening dews朝霞暮露, At first thy little being came:孕育了你娇小的身躯。 If nothing once, you nothing lose,你从尘土来,又归尘土去, For when you die you are the same;来时一无所有,去时化作尘土, The space between, is but an hour,可叹生命苦短, The frail 脆弱的duration of a flower.

To a waterfowl
By William Cullen Bryant
Whither(where) midst 披着falling dew
While glow the heavens with the last steps of day Far through their rosy depths dost (do)thou pursue Thy solitary way?
Vainly the fowler's eye(haunter’s eye) Might mark thy distant flight to do thee wrong As darkly seen against the crimson 深红色的sky Thy figure floats along.
Seek'st thou the plashy(marshy沼泽) brink边缘 Of weedy lake or marge of river wide Or where the rocking billows rise and sink On the chafed ocean-side?
There is a Power (God )whose care
Teaches thy way along that pathless coast— The desert and illimitable无边的 air— Lone wandering but not lost.
All day thy wings have fanned
At that far height the cold thin atmosphere Yet stoop not weary to the welcome land
Though the dark night is near.
And soon that toil 劳苦shall end;
Soon shalt thou find a summer home and rest And scream among thy fellows; reeds 芦苇shall bend Soon o'er thy sheltered nest.
Thou 'rt(you‘re) gone the abyss of heaven深渊 Hath swallowed up thy form; yet on my heart Deeply hath sunk the lesson 启迪thou hast given And shall not soon depart.
He(God) who from zone to zone
Guides through the boundless sky thy certain flight In the long way that I must tread alone Will lead my steps aright.

Like those Nicean barks(small sailing vessels) of yore往昔, That gently, o'er a perfumed sea, The weary, way-worn wanderer bore承载 To his own native shore.
On desperate 凶险的seas long wont to (accustomed to)roam游荡, Thy hyacinth 风信子hair, thy classic face, Thy Naiad airs have brought me home To the glory that was Greece. And the grandeur宏伟 that was Rome.
Lo! in yon brilliant window-niche How statue-like I see thee stand! The agate玛瑙 lamp within thy hand, Ah! Psyche from the regions which
Are Holy Land!

Helen, thy beauty is to me 海伦哦,我眼里你的美丽 Like those Nicèan barks of yore
That gently, o'er a perfumed sea,
The weary way-worn wanderer bore To his own native shore.
On desperate seas long wont to roam,
Thy Naiad airs have brought me home To the glory that was Greece,
And the grandeur that was Rome.
Lo, in yon brilliant window-niche
How statue-like I see thee stand,
