Distinguished teacher and dear classmates, I feel so happy today to share hunan’s customs with all of you.
At “Chu Xi”, the Lunar New Year’s Eve, we will do five things. The first thing is “Song Gong Xi”, as you can imagine, people stand in the front of the neighbor’s home,then shout out in dialect “Gong Xi Fa Cai,Tang Li Zi La Lai”. As soon as the host hear the voice, the host goes out of the house to welcome the guests at once. After that, the guests will be seated and receive lots of candies and biscuits. If you’d like to have a try, you have to get prepared:you need a red bag or a coat with two pockets,and the flashlight will be needed, because it’s pretty dark with no streetlight in the village.
The second thing is to make jiaozi and wonton, girls will make it together. The picture on the left is wontun, jiaozi is on the right. Those are all made by my sisters and me. Actually, they do much better than me. We got different fillings every year, and this year, the fillings were made from meat and vegetables.
The third thing is to have a family reunion dinner, the piture on the screen is this year’s scene of the family reunion dinner. This old man is my grandfather, and my father is on the right.In my view, the best dish is the fried pepper .Those peppers are from “Zhang Shu Gang”, which is located in Hunan province, but I am afraid that people will only buy
them at this time, as the price of those peppers sometimes are even up to 288 yuan per 500 grams. So if you are interested why it’s so expensive,I recommend you to have a taste!
The fourth thing is to visit relative’s home, this year I went to my granny's home. my granny is a student of a college for the elderly, and she loves to write poems.she is 86 already.This year she gave several books to me,and these are some of it.In these books, there are some poems she wrote. The pictures on the screen show her notebooks and poems.
The last thing is setting off fireworks at zero o’clock. As the countdown approaches its peak,you will be surprised by the loud sounds of fireworks,because every family is setting off fireworks. Time flies, but there is something which will never
change.Customs is just like a bond, it makes the family relationship closer.Thank you.
