Fifty-three years ago, Barbie Millicent Roberts first appeared in the world of toys. Since then, Barbie doll, as everyone called her, has become the most successful toy doll in history. Her parent, the Mattel Company, said that 90% of all American girls between 3 and 10 have at least one Barbie at home.
However, Barbie is facing some trouble at present. There are many simple dolls on the market in competition with her. Another doll named Bratz, for example, came to life thirteen years ago. She looks more like today's pop stars with heavy makeup(浓妆) and miniskirts. And her company offers more kinds of clothes too.
It seems that Barbie has lost her magic among older girls. \"For younger girls, playing with a Barbie is much fun. But when you get older, you want something smarter and more modern.\" says Vera Stepherd, a shop assistant in a New York toy store.
It is good news that on the international market, Barbie is still No.1. Although Mattel is selling fewer Barbies in the United States these years, sales in other countries are still going up. In March, 2009, Mattel opened its first Barbie store in Shanghai, where girls can shop, eat or drink .
Mattel is planning big celebrations for Barbie's 55th birthday. Fashion designers from all over the world have been called to make new dresses for Barbies. How long will Barbie stay popular in the world of toy dolls? It is hard to say, but 55 is surely not the age to retire(退休). 58. Barbie's family name is_______.

Giant pandas have been living on Earth for millions of years. Other animals that lived long ago, such as stegodons and smilodons , have since died out. But we still have pandas with us today.
Pandas can change their diets to fit into different environments, according to Wei Fuwen from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Researchers studied the bones of 12 giant panda fossils (化石). They found that pandas went from being meat eaters to becoming plant eaters over time. They mainly ate bamboo, as they still do today. Other large meat eaters had no interest in bamboo, so pandas could live safely in bamboo forests. That is one of the reasons they have been around for so long.
In addition, pandas are very strong and have great bite force (咬合力). They can also climb trees. Both of these abilities helped them stay alive in the past. However, pandas are facing some problems. There are fewer pandas in the world today. They are dying out mainly because of habitat loss . People have cut down forests to build houses and farms. This has caused pandas to lose both their food and their homes.
Pandas also have problems giving birth to babies. Female pandas can only get

If you’re away from home, feeling a bit blue or searching for some comfort, the Danes have a solution. It’s called “hygge”. Coming from Danish culture, it was popular in British in 2016, hygge is much more than just a word, it’s becoming a feeling around the world.
The hygge means the sense of happiness you get when your family is gathered together at new year or Christmas. It is all about the happy feelings of home: the smell of your mother’s cooking, your partner’s arm around your shoulder and so on.
Hygge is an antidote(良药) to stress. You know when you’ve got it, a gentle warmth starts spreading through your body. Another important part of hygge is that it has nothing to do with modern technology(技术). It’s a period time to relax your tired mind and eyes. So, put down that smart phone and turn off the computer.
You should also know that hygge is not about healthy eating or more exercise. In fact, it’s just the opposite. You’re supposed to be lost in what you like: enjoy sweet snacks and calorie-laden cakes freely. Let yourself think of what happened in the past, and remember the childhood songs of your distant youth with
13
a smile. If it helps, wrap yourself in a warm blanket and sleep with one of your favorite books (not a pill or e-reader).
If Denmark seems too far, then think of old Beijing with its hutong and courtyard houses. Picture yourself sit around a traditional stove with your loved ones, eating dumplings and chatting about the old days. Let yourself drift back in time to a period where everything is relaxing as e-mails or text messages did not exist(存在) back then.
Now you’ve really understood hygge without going to Copenhagen.
