　　Shanghai Botanical Garden was formerly known as Longhua nursery. It's onthe west side of Longwu Road in Xuhui District. It was built in 1954 and used tobe a nursery. In 1974, it was changed into Shanghai Botanical Garden. In 1978,it was opened to the outside world, covering an area of about 1000 mu, withflowers, grass and green trees. At present, there are about 3000 kinds ofplants. Shanghai Botanical Garden is the largest municipal botanical garden inChina, which has the functions of sightseeing, science popularization,scientific research, production, protection and so on.

　　The park is divided into three areas, namely, environmental protectionplant area, plant evolution area and artificial ecological area. There areorchid room, peony garden, rose garden, herb garden, Rhododendron Garden, pineand cypress garden and plant building (the first floor displays "the origin oflife" and "the evolution of plants", and the second floor holds a largehorticultural exhibition). Bonsai garden, covering an area of about 100 mu, hasexhibition room, stump bonsai area, small basin scenic area, miniature bonsaihall and stone bonsai Gallery, etc. Stump bonsai are more than 100 years oldbranches, vigorous and simple, there are plum, elm, boxwood, Begonia,pomegranate, etc., the oldest pomegranate stump for the Qianlong period of theQing Dynasty (1736-1795). More than 30 kinds of rocks are used in the mountainand stone bonsai, which has the interest of mountain and water peaks, such asimitating Yunnan stone forest, Yangshuo mountains and rivers, Huangshandangerous peaks and so on. There are many kinds of meat plants such as cactusand cactus. Over the years, the garden has collected and introduced a variety ofornamental plants from home and abroad, especially rare and endangered plants.More than 20__ varieties and varieties of chrysanthemum, Rhododendron, orchidand other fine varieties have been selected.
