Module 9 Unit 1 We laughed a lot.

Good morning, everyone. Now I’ll say New Standard English Module 9 Unit 1 in Book 10. Theme of this lesson is “We laughed a lot.”

Part One Analysis of the Teaching Material.

Status and function

  1. This is an important lesson in Book 10. It starts asking the Ss to grasp words and sentence patterns. To attain four skills request of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
  2. In this lesson, we are going to learn the past tense.

The students in Grade 5 have learned the past tense. They can use some simple sentences to talk about what happened. The Ss have taken a great interest in English now. They like communicating with each other.

Teaching aims and demands

The teaching aim’s basis is established according to primary school English syllabus provision.

  1. Knowledge objects
    1. To learn the new words: “theatre, man – men, woman – women”.
    2. To make the Ss use some simple sentences to talk about what happened.
  2. Ability objects
    1. To develop the Ss’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
    2. To train the Ss’ abilities of working in pairs.

    1. To enable the Ss to be interested in the cultures of the different countries..
    2. To raise their interests of learning English.

Next, I’d like to say the key points and difficult points.

  1. Key points
    1. To help the Ss to communicate with each other.
    2. To enable the Ss to learn in groups and cooperate skillfully.

    1. To use some simple sentences to talk about what happened..

Part two the teaching methods:

  1. Communicative teaching method
  2. Audio-visual teaching method
  3. Task-based teaching method

As we all know: the main instructional aims of learning English in the Primary School is to cultivate students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly use “Communicative” teaching method, “Audio-visual” teaching method and “Task-based” teaching method. That is to say, I’ll let the Ss to get a better understanding of the key structure of the dialogue. I’ll give the Ss some tasks and arrange some kinds of activities: reading, picture talking and free talks.

Teaching procedure

Step 1: Warming-up

At the beginning of this class, I form the class into four groups to compete, the competition will in the whole class. I do some actions, and then the Ss guess what did I do yesterday. This game will make the class lively. Let the Ss have a concentration to learn. Leading the Ss in the past tense.

Step 2: Presentation

Show a headwear of a clown, then let the Ss guess where did Lingling go and what did Lingling do and see. Using the limited resources to set up a real environment. Training the interests of learning English.  

Step 3: Text-teaching

  1. Listen and answer. Read this text after the tape, and then answer questions in groups. Listening to the tape with some questions; it can help the Ss to improve their ability of listening. Reading after the tape, it can help the Ss to improve their ability of spoken language.

2. Listen and circle the past tense, make the Ss find the past tense as more as possible. In this way, it can review the past tense. The teacher will encourage the Ss in this process. To establish the confidence of students and arouse their enthusiasm.

 3.  Listen and say. Read this text in groups, and then act out. Correct their pronunciations and tones. Improve their ability of oral English.

Step.4 Consolidations

According to the Ss’ level of this lesson, I set up kinds of activities to train sense organs by different ways.

  1. Play a game. I will give them a blank of the past tense words. Have a competition in groups, and then make sentences with these words. In this way, it can review the past tense and the rules of varieties.

2. Look at the pictures then shout out the sentences. To improve their interests of learning English. To train their ability of spoken language and thinking.

Step.5 Homework

  1. Words and sentences..
  2. Recite the dialogue.
